Our Icelandic adventure starts with a one-day trip together with Tuomo and Sanni around The Golden Circle, which combines three of the most popular natural wonders in Iceland. Their proximity to the capital contributes to the big number of visitors yearly. The whole trip is around 300 km. long and has three main stops:
Our first stop was the geothermally active valley Haukadalur, which contains The Great Geysir – the geyser from which all other hot springs of this kind derive their name – and Strokkur. Though Geysir has been inactive for a long time, Strokkur, on the other hand, continues to erupt at every 5-10 minutes interval and its can reach up to 70 meters high.

After that we visited the other two Golden Circle wonders – the Gullfoss waterfalls and the Þingvellir National Park, where the Icelandic Parliament was founded in 930 and existed there until 1798. Later on Þingvellir was turned into a National park and in 2004 it became part of the World Heritage of UNESCO.

On the way we passed by beautiful unreal views, volcanic rocks and a sea of thick layers of moss, which turned out to be a very comfortable place for a break and to enjoy the wonderful landscapes around. Our fellow-travelers were beautiful Icelandic horses.

During the summer in Iceland the phenomenon ‘white nights’ can be observed – the day is very long, the sun sets just for a couple of hours and even then it does not become completely dark – you can admire long-lasting and unbelievably amazing sunsets.
